Locating family members within the Superior cemetery just became easier.
The Town of Superior has created an online map for the Superior Community and Veterans Cemetery, also known as the Fairview Cemetery. The map took several years to complete, combining a site survey and spreadsheets listing the known ownership of the cemetery plots into an interactive online mapping system.
Wherever possible, the names and dates of the headstones have been recorded. With this new technological update, it is now possible to type a name into the search window on the town of Superior cemetery website page and be given a superimposed location over a satellite image. You can also access the map on a smartphone, allowing you to check the location on-site.
The page can be found by clicking on this link: http://bit.ly/4kd9u8p or simply go to the Town of Superior webpage at www.superioraz.gov, then select the Government drop down, scroll towards the bottom then click on Fairview Cemetery Map.
All data listed on the website is for reference purposes only and is only updated yearly. Those wishing to purchase a grave or select a specific grave will still need to work directly with the Town of Superior staff at Town Hall to determine if a spot is still available or to confirm if an open grave is in an accessible area.
Occupied plots are shown in green, reserved lots are shown in orange, and open plots are shown in blue. A grave appearing as blue does not guarantee its availability.
The Town Council has updated the cemetery code to require five days’ notice to dig a grave instead of two. Many graves may be dug more quickly, but the town cannot guarantee two days in older areas of the cemetery where it is necessary to hand dig, or where crews hit hard bedrock at shallow depths.
Should you need more information on this upgrade or finding a gravesite, please contact Superior Town Hall at 520-689-5752 or emailing csr@superioraz.gov.
