The Friday night lights were ablaze last week and Copper Corridor athletes worked hard on the field for their teams. Three came away with wins. One, unfortunately, suffered a hard loss.
Hayden Lobos
The Lobo football team hosted the Williams Vikings on Friday, Sept. 26. The game start was delayed due to a lightning watch. When the game began, the Lobos were quick to score, and held down the Vikings whenever on defense.
The first half of the game saw a lot of Lobo touchdowns, and saw the Vikings score as well. By halftime the score sat at 43-6.
The Lobos continued to put up a tough fight, and only gave up one more touchdown. The final score of the game sat at 55-12, making it a Lobo victory.
Leading the team in touchdowns was Kino Lorona with 4, Mario Hong with 2, and Luke Gonzales and Ryan Garner each with 1. Leading the team in tackles were Alijah Aguirre, Kino Lorona, Javier Ortega, Benjamin Quesada and Mario Hong who each had 4 tackles.
This week, the Lobos will travel to St. David on Friday, Oct. 3, with a kickoff time of 7 p.m.
Ray Bearcats
The Bearcats traveled to Fort Thomas last Friday to take on the Apaches. The Bearcats put up a tough fight and by half time the score sat at 32-12.
The boys continued to control the game, and were able to come out on top. The final score of the game was 54-26.
Leading the team in tackles was Jesse James with 8 tackles. Logan Rice had 7 Tackles, RJ Nunez had 7 tackles, and Cyrus Putman had 6 tackles.
Leading the team in points was Jesse James and RJ Nunez with 3 touchdowns each. Chase Chester and Logan Rice had 1 touchdown each.
The boys will travel to Duncan on Friday, Oct. 3, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
San Manuel Miners
The Miner football team played a Thursday game last week, traveling to take on Cicero Prep Academy. The boys were finally able to break away from their last four losses, and claimed a win. The final score of the Miners versus the Centurions was 42-16.
The Miners will travel to take on Superior this Friday, Oct. 3, with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Superior Panthers
The Panthers football team traveled to take on St. David last Friday. It was a tough time on the field for the boys, who were only able to score 1 touchdown by halftime. The score sat at 6-22 by halftime.
The second half of the game saw the Tigers continue to score on the Panthers. The game ended with a final score of 6-46.
The Panthers will host San Manuel this Friday, Oct. 3, for Homecoming with a kickoff time of 7 p.m.
