  San Manuel juniors Javy Tamayo and Jose Moreno led the Miners to a 67 – 42 victory against visiting San Carlos last Tuesday. Tamayo scored a team-high 14 points while Moreno led the Miners in assists (6), steals (5) and rebounds (6).

  The victory was the Miners first over the Braves in 12 years. San Manuel last defeated San Carlos on Jan. 31, 2006, 53 – 44.

  San Manuel followed Tuesday’s victory by defeating Desert Christian on the road last Friday, 58 – 47, to improve to 5 – 2 on the season. The Miners are ranked No. 19 in the AIA’s most recent rankings.

  Tamayo again led the Miners in scoring with 12 points versus the Eagles while senior Hector Sierra added eight points. Caleb Quintero, a junior, who finished with eight points in Tuesday’s win, led San Manuel with seven rebounds, three assists and four steals against the Eagles.
