The League of Arizona Cities and Towns recognized three council members from the Town of Superior for their years of elected service.

Councilmember Bruce Armitage and Councilmember Vanessa Navarrette were recognized for eight years of service on the Superior Town Council.  Councilmember Armitage was unable to receive his award in person. He did not seek re-election in the 2024 election.  Councilmember Vanessa Navarrette secured another term on the Town Council in the primary election held in July.

Councilmember Gilbert Aguilar was recognized for 16 years of service to the Town of Superior.  Aguilar has two more years on his current term on the Superior Town Council.

It was also announced during the business meeting of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns that Mayor Mila Besich will serve for two years as the Vice President of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns.  Besich will be eligible to serve as President of the important advocacy group in two years.

“I am truly appreciative of the important work of our council members and thankful for their commitment to serve our community.  It was wonderful to celebrate their years of service at our annual conference,” she said.

The mission of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns, per their website: “The League of Arizona Cities and Towns, a voluntary membership organization of the incorporated municipalities in Arizona, exists to provide vital services and tools to all its members, focusing principally on representing the interests of cities and towns before the legislature, and secondarily on providing technical and legal assistance, coordinating shared services and producing high quality conference and educational events.”
