One of the traditional markers of a mining town is the first letter of their name being marked on a mountain around them.  In Superior, many locals and alumni remember that the S would be lit up for graduation and homecoming football game using smudge pot flares.  The tradition of lighting the S ended several years ago as volunteers were scarce and fire dangers increased.

Rebuild Superior Inc. helped to fund the purchase of large solar powered lights that were placed on the S during the homecoming week for the Superior Panthers.  Residents were surprised to see the tradition re-emerge this past week.

Rebuild Superior Inc. Executive Director Manny Guzman, and his father worked to install the lights prior earlier in the week, the organization plans to put them out each year.
