The Superior Town Council and staff recognized and celebrated retiring council members, Olga Lopez and Bruce Armitage. The two council members were presented with clocks and custom street signs with their last names, mimicking a Town of Superior street sign.
Lopez has served on the Superior Town Council for 22 years, serving alongside different Mayors and Managers, during her tenure. Her steadfast leadership guided the town through both good and bad times.
She thanked former Mayor Manny Ruiz for his guidance when she was first elected. She also thanked the current staff and council.
Armitage has served on the council for eight years. He was elected in 2016 and was instrumental in the development of the new helicopter landing zones at the Superior Municipal Airport and supporting improvements and change in Superior.
He also thanked the staff, council colleagues and his wife Barbara for supporting him and his decision to run.
The Superior Town Council members all recognized their retiring colleagues during their council comments. The newly elected Councilmember Jed Lant and Chris Tomerlin will be sworn in Nov. 21, 2024. The Council will not meet in December but will resume regular meetings in January.
