Managing diabetes can sometimes be very confusing and frustrating. There is so much information out there that it’s hard to know what latest trend to believe.
It is important to learn techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes: fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear, and frustration; appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength and endurance; healthy eating; appropriate use of medication; and working more effectively with health care providers.
In the Healthy Living with Diabetes Workshop sponsored by Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens, participants will meet every Thursday, starting Aug. 9 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for six weeks, at the Superior Senior Center, 360 Main St., Superior. Participants will also make a weekly action plan, share experiences, and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out their self-management program.
The Healthy Living with Diabetes Workshop is free and each participant in the Workshop will receive a copy of the companion book, Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, and audio relaxation CD. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.
Seating is limited.
Deadline to register is Aug. 3, 2018. To register please contact Carol Granillo, Superior Senior Center Director at 520-689-5182 or Mary Gonzales, Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens-Health Education Specialist at maryg@pgcsc.org
