Sandra R. Laguna
Sandra Rubio Laguna of Safford passed into Heavenly Eternity on Nov. 19, 2025, at the age of 78. She was born in Lordsburg, New Mexico on Aug. 17, 1947, to Guadalupe Rubio and Rosa Saucedo Rubio.
Sandra was raised in Morenci, Arizona, graduating from Morenci High School in 1965, then went to Safford to attend beauty school. Soon after graduating from beauty school, she moved to Lordsburg, NM, where she met Alfred Laguna. They married in 1967 and moved to Costa Mesa, CA, where their oldest son Andrew was born. After a year of the California traffic and smog, they relocated to Morenci, AZ. After a few years working at PD, Alfred got a job at Magma Copper Company in San Manuel. Soon after, in 1972, Dennis was born, and in 1979, Joseph was born, both in Tucson. The family were long time residents of San Manuel. After Alfred retired from Magma, they moved to Safford, AZ, where they took care of her parents.
Everyone loved Sandra’s great cooking, which she learned from her mom. It was said that she couldn’t make a proper sandwich when she was first wed, but with practice and dedication she became a wonderful cook. Sandra enjoyed cooking, but also loved to dance, especially to her cumbias. She was a fantastic dancer. She loved watching her soap operas and her novelas. She was always extra happy around the Christmas holidays, wrapping gifts and watching all the Christmas cartoons.
Sandra was very close to all of her family. She would often go visit with her brothers and sister, nephews and nieces, all who lived in Tempe and Mesa. She enjoyed watching ASU play games and the family gatherings that would occur during the big games like the ASU vs UofA rivalry game. All her sons and their families and often, many more family and friends, would gather at their house to watch the game and have fun.
Sandra is survived by her beloved husband, Alfred; her sons, Andrew (Deanna), Dennis (Patricia), and Joseph (Johanna); 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Sammy (Helen) Rubio, Manny Rubio, and Becky (Larry) Morones, and by many many family and friends.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Services were held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Safford, Arizona.
