This past weekend, the San Manuel girls wrestling teams, both junior high and high school, traveled and competed in the all girls Casteel Fierce Philly Showdown. Both the junior high Lady Miners walked away with medals that evening.

Sakura Andrade was able to claim the gold, going 5-0 the whole tournament, and also received the outstanding wrestler award for middle school.

Arizona Axe was able to secure the second place medal for her weight class.

Overall the girls team placed fourth, competing with some of the top girls programs in the state.

“Sakura has been working so hard over the last year, and everything is really firing on all cylinders. She is gearing up for another run at a state title next month. I am extremely proud of her dedication to wrestling. She has a very bright future. Arizona has been doing awesome for her first season of wrestling. She has made it on the podium for every female tournament this season,” commented junior high head coach Tommy Elliott.

For the high school girls wrestling, Sienna Taylor was able to secure the third place medal for her weight class after recovering from the flu.

Aaliyah Anaya was able to claim fifth place in her weight class. During her match against Casteel, Anaya went into the third period tied 8-8. She started that period in the down position, and was able to turn a reversal into a pin, claiming the win over Casteel.

Good job Lady Miners, representing the strive for excellence in our female wrestling program!
