  The Ray Bearcats football team traveled down to San Manuel last Friday to take on the Miners. The game started with the Bearcats kicking off to the Miners. Both teams battled it out on the field, and played a close game, never letting the point difference get too great.

  By halftime the score sat at 20-16 with the Miners holding the lead.

  The Miners were able to score a touchdown in the third quarter, putting them at 26 points, while the Bearcats scored a touchdown and put themselves at 22 points.

  In the fourth quarter, the Bearcats scored a touchdown, and put themselves ahead of the Miners. The Miners were unable to come back in the end, and the game concluded with a 26-28 final score, giving the Ray Bearcats the victory for the night.

  “I think the team played good. We had some mistakes that they capitalized on and we came up short by 2 points. We will have to work harder next week. We know St. David is a good team and we know we can beat them we just need to fix the mistakes we had,” commented San Manuel’s coach Ernie Ivy.

  San Manuel will host St. David on Friday, Sept. 5, with a kickoff time scheduled for 7 p.m. Be sure to come out and support the Miners!

Hayden Lobos

  The Hayden Lobos football team had their first away game of the season last Friday night. The team took on the Salome Frogs. As always, the Lobos came out ready to play.

  The Lobos kicked off to the Frogs to start the game. Playing a sharp defense, the Lobos were quickly in possession of the ball. By the end of the first quarter, Hayden was sitting with a 21-0 score. Continuing to play an aggressive defense, the Lobos kept Salome out of the end zone. At halftime the score was 49-0, and it stayed there for the whole third quarter. By the end of the game, the final score sat at 52-0, making it a Lobo victory.

  Leading the Lobos on defense was Kino Lorona, with 4 solo tackles, and 6 assists, followed by Javier Ortega and Mario Hong with 3 solo tackles and 1 assist each. Leading the boys on offense was Tyler Garner and Kino Lorona with 3 touchdowns each, followed by Mario Hong with 1 touchdown. During this game, Tyler Garner had 191 rushing yards, Kino Lorona had 182 rushing yards, and Isaiah Perez had 41 rushing yards, Luke Gonzalez had 9 rushing yards, and Julius Pinkard had 7 rushing yards. Mario Hong had 45 yards in receiving, and Darren Smith had 45 yards in passing. Ryan Garner and Mario Hong both made 2 interceptions each.

  On Friday, Sept. 5, the Lobos will host Joseph City, with a kickoff time set for 7 p.m. Be sure to come out and cheer on the Lobos!

Superior Panthers

  The Superior High School football team had an away game against the Mayer Wildcats last Thursday. The Panthers were coming in off of a loss to Hayden during their season opener.

  Taking to the field ready to play, the boys from Superior were able to hold control of this game. Mayer was not able to get the best of the Panthers’ defense. The boys were able to break past the Wildcats’ defense though, and ran up a total of 42 points on them. The final score of the game was 42-0, giving the Panthers their first victory of the season.

  Raiden Sommer lead Superior in tackles with 4 solo and 10 assists. Mario Bogenschutz had 2 solo tackles and 3 assists. Andrew Blair had 1 solo tackle and 6 assists. Caleb Lopez and Zachary Bryant each had 1 solo tackle and 5 assists, Jeremiah Martinez had 1 solo tackle and 4 assists, Dominic Denogean had 1 solo tackle and 3 assists, and Samuel Broussard had 1 tackle and 2 assists. On offense, Ryland Duarte scored 3 touchdowns, Andrew Blair scored 2 touchdowns, and Antonio Lopez scored 1 touchdown. Andrew Blair had 107 yards of rushing, Antonio Lopez had 51 yards of rushing, Adam Sandoval had 11 yards of rushing, and Eugene Griego had 3 yards of rushing. Antonio Lopez had 234 yards in passing, and Noah Jimenez had 2 yards in passing. In receiving, Ryland Duarte had 108 yards, Noah Jimenez had 77 yards,  Adam Sandoval had 37 yards, Andrew Blair had 12 yards, and Caleb Lopez had 2 yards.

  On Friday, Sept. 5, the Superior Panthers will host Williams. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff time. Come out and support the Panthers!
