The Ray football team traveled to Superior on Friday, Sept. 24, to play at Superior’s homecoming. As usual, when the Bearcats and the Panthers face off on the football field, the Copper Helmet trophy is on the line. It was last in Ray’s possession in 2013, and has been with the Panthers since 2014.

The Bearcats ended the first quarter down by 2 points, but by the half the game was tied up. The game changing difference was made during the third quarter, when Ray posted 8 points, while suppressing Superior from scoring. In the end, those 8 points secured the Copper Helmet trophy back to the Bearcats. The final score of the Copper Helmet game was 28-20, giving them their second win of the season.

Due to a COVID protocol, The Hayden football team was unable to compete in last Friday’s scheduled game against Tempe Prep School and the Homecoming was moved to Oct. 8 and the game against Superior.

The Hayden Lobos and the Ray Bearcats are set to face off, keeping the local rivalry alive. The game is scheduled for Oct. 1, at the Ray High School football field, with a kick-off time of 7 p.m.

OK, fans. Come decked out in your best LOBO BLUE or BEARCAT MAROON to cheer on our Boys of Fall.
