Ramon Marcus Muñoz

  It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ramon Marcus Muñoz, affectionately known as Mark, Markie and Mr. Muñoz, on Aug. 22, 2025, at the age of 77.

  Mark was born on April 25, 1948, in Ray, Arizona, to the late Roberta Lee Muñoz and Ramon Muñoz, who preceded him in death along with his brother, Ralph Muñoz.

  Mark leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory.

  He is survived by his beloved daughters, Leticia De Los Reyes and her husband Cristian, and Patricia Carrillo and her husband Adam. Mark was a proud grandfather to Marcus, who is married to Naomi Muñoz, Alec Carrillo, Gianah De Los Reyes, Zachary Carrillo, and Dariani De Los Reyes. He is also survived by his devoted siblings, Rene Muñoz and his wife Cathy, Ruben Muñoz and his husband John Zapf, and Rudy Muñoz, and sister-in-law Barbara Muñoz, along with a large extended family of relatives.

  Mark’s love for music began at a young age, rooted deeply in his family and community. At just 15 years old, he demonstrated his commitment and passion by starting a neighborhood band with his brothers and friends. This early initiative set the stage for a lifelong journey in music.

  During his high school years, Mark’s talent was recognized on a larger scale. He was selected to join the Band of America, an honor that took him on an exciting tour through Europe and the United Kingdom as a tenor saxophone musician. This experience not only broadened his musical horizons but also solidified his dedication to the craft.

  He then graduated high school being awarded the John Philip Sousa Award for outstanding musical ability.

  Mark continued to pursue his musical passion at Arizona State University, where he was an active member of the marching band and various music ensembles. Despite a busy college schedule, he found time to play with local bands, entertaining at events and further honing his skills. This period was crucial in shaping his versatility and commitment as a musician.

  After completing his education, Mark embarked on a teaching career that would leave a lasting impact on countless students. He began with the Hayden-Winkelman School District, where he taught for two years before moving on to Ray High School. It was at Ray High School that Mark dedicated the remainder of his career, teaching and inspiring young musicians for 34 years.

  Even after retiring, Mark’s passion for music and teaching never waned. He continued to mentor aspiring musicians, sharing his knowledge and love for music with the next generation along with being active in the Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church choir for around 20 years.

  His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, both as a musician and a beloved teacher. Mark’s story is one of unwavering dedication, inspiring countless individuals to pursue their own musical dreams.

  In honoring Mr. Muñoz’s wishes, the family will be holding a private celebration to honor his life and the countless memories they shared with him.
