The Town of Kearny is getting a public garden space. The garden will be located down by and across the street from Getsome Motorsports. The fenced and watered plot sits next to the public works garage in the 1100 block of Emery Drive.
The initial volunteer team of 11 different shades of “green thumb” citizens met and continue to get it prepped for themselves and the public. Listening to all the ideas, plants and enthusiasm is simply awesome.
Resident Jennifer Cude has taken the lead on the project. You can see evidence of her incredible garden style at the school where she is developing the same for the students.
The citizen team is at the very basic garden prep steps. They will have more details over the next two weeks or so, including guidelines, soil seasoning and more volunteer needs.
The garden goal will be to provide individual spaces along with rules for sustainable garden success.
Jennifer notes that the garden’s future could envision plant and produce sales, workshops and seasonal events. An old home-like picnic table graces a past mobile home slab for good community conversation, teaching/learning and sharing.
In kind donations include volunteer prep time, good old-fashioned fertilizer, hay bales, RR ties, sprinklers and hoses. Most importantly, the garden needs citizens’ interest and continued donations.
