In reading through the Old Testament prophets, certain phrases are repeated numerous times.  “The word of the Lord came to . . .” and “the Lord said to . . .” or, “listen to what the Lord says.”

These authors were called prophets because God spoke to them about future events.  Some things dealt with events in the near or slightly distant future and concerned the people that he knew.  Other messages referred to the very far distant future – today or soon to come for us.

These people had a close relationship with God and regularly heard Him speak to them.  In John 10:27, ‘My sheep/followers hear My voice’ and in Psalm 95:7, ‘when you hear His voice, do not harden your heart.’

Yes, God speaks to us – but are we listening?  The cares and worries of this world can drown out His voice if we are not careful.  As believers, He is our ‘father’ and of course:  Father knows best!  So pay attention and listen, He is speaking to your heart!
