Wayne Newman traveled to Walnut, Calif. from Lipscome University to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays for Lipscome University, Nashville, Tenn. Located on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College, the Mt. SAC Relays have served as the site of two Olympic track and field trials and 20 world records. The event attracts all levels and disciplines of the sport of track and field. Because of the stature of the meet, the stadium and most meet literature contain the phrases, “Where the World’s Best Athletes Compete” and “Mt. SAC – One Step to the Olympics”. This event is held annually in April over a three-day period and attracts around 15,000 athletes from more than 150 colleges and universities and 150 high schools throughout the US and abroad. The Mt. SAC Relays hosted 12,000 competitors from throughout the world at this year’s track and field events.
Wayne competed in the 110 hurdles and came in overall in third place. The times for the top three athletes were: First place – 13.99; second place – 14.001; and Wayne’s time for third place was 14.003. Wow! What a close race! Congratulations Wayne! Wayne is a sophomore at Lipscome University and has been accepted into the nursing program which he will begin in the fall of 2015.
