Many of you know that Central Arizona College President Doris Helmich is retiring at the end of the school year.

A search committee was formed to help hire of the next president of our community college.  I am honored to be one of those chosen by the Chairwoman of the CAC Governing Board, Gladys Christensen to be on the search committee.  There are currently 14 members on the search committee.  At Tuesday’s initial meeting, I supported Frank Davidson, Superintendent of Casa Grande Elementary School District as Committee Chairman and Valerie Jensen, CAC professor as Vice-Chair.

The next step for the committee is to review applications from February 23 to March 3 and narrow them down before extending oral interviews.  The target date to have a new President is May 31.

I am pleased with the make-up of the committee as selected by the CAC College Board.  This is going to be an exhaustive search for the right person to serve a college that is spread out over a large geographical area, but yet small enough to serve many of the students on a one-to-one basis.

I look forward to working with the rest of the committee and finding the right person to serve the students, the faculty and the taxpayers.
