Merrilee Kinney is the Superior Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Month. Merrilee likes to call herself and her husband, Dan Levendowski, “part-time residents, full-time supporters of Superior.” They live in town for the 4 winter months and spend the rest of the year in Brooklyn Park, MN, in order to be near their grandchildren, family and gardens. When in Superior, Merrilee oversees the Caboose Visitor Center with the aid of the perennial volunteers. She also helps the Volunteer Coordinator with recruiting people for the January Home Tour and the Apache Leap Mining Festival. She may look familiar to you as she has been the Mining Competition registrar for several years. Merrilee and Dan are also members of the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, the Superior Historical Society, the Lost Trail, and the VFW. When they return to AZ, Merrilee hopes to volunteer at the Kennedy Elementary School. Dan and she love to hike the local trails and explore the AZ parks and monuments. She is an amateur photographer and has recently taken up painting with the encouragement of the Superior artist community. “The best part of Superior is the friendly residents. We feel embraced by the community and are huge promoters of the town,” she said.
