Two seniors on this year’s defending State Champion softball team have received full ride scholarships to play college ball next year. They will both enroll in school in the fall. Next year they will be playing against each other in the tough Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC).

Alyssa Cuellar plays third base and first base for the Miners. She will be playing for Pima Community College Aztecas. Alyssa says she will be enrolling in the nursing program at Pima. Alyssa was first team All Division IV last year. She batted .506 with 10 home runs and 52 runs batted in. Alyssa has been named a Player to Watch in 2015 by the Arizona Republic. She is the daughter of Alicia Lopez.

Felicia Medina plays catcher, first base and third base for the Miners. She signed with Central Arizona College (CAC) to play first and third base for the Vaqueras and new head coach Tonya Medders. She is the daughter of Frank and Olivia Medina. On the CAC softball team website it was said of Felicia: “The Vaqueras added some power and a quality infielder for the 2016 season on the first day of NJCCA signings with Felicia Medina out of San Manuel AZ. As a four year starter at San Manuel High School, she hit over 25 home runs and helped her team win the 2A State Championship in 2013-2014.”

“It’s really a sight to see when those balls fly over the fence,” said first year coach Tonya Medders. “She is a great person and player and we’re very happy to have her.”

Felicia’s sister played softball for San Manuel and Pima College. Her mother played softball for four years at San Manuel and was an All-Conference shortstop.
