On Tuesday, April 5, the San Manuel Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) inducted 13 new members. Inducted were Zara Allmendinger, Kalin Anderson-Begay, Evan Apuron, Mia Borg, Aubrey Bridges, Victoria Medina, Alyssa Riekofski, Julia Rodriguez, Hannah Smallhouse, Thalia Tamayo, Eric Velasquez, Isiah Villegas, and Victoria Zazueta.
Students inducted into the NJHS are recognized as high achievers and encouraged to strive to attain further excellence, in ways that benefit not just themselves, but, their local community and the world. They have access to tools and resources that help them in developing leadership skills, find their motivation, and in exploring career options. Teamwork is built through service projects, which also hone aptitude in management and making friends.
Along with these valuable life skills, students also benefit through help with financing their future college education through the NJHS Outstanding Achievement Award which is given in recognition of 500 of the most exceptional NJHS members. Plus, an integration of web and social media platforms provides college admission and planning resources uniquely planned for NJHS and National Honor Society members.
To become a member of NJHS, students must have a good academic record, belong to a school with an active chapter, be in their second semester of 6th grade or above in a middle level school and meet the individual school’s eligibility requirements. If you know of a student who might qualify, check with your school’s office or advisor to learn more information.
Advisor Denise Fisher stated, “This year, we have increased our scholarship requirement to a 3.5 GPA. Many of these students are also athletes and members of student government. It is not easy to keep that high of a GPA, play sports, and help lead our school, but I know these students will be able to balance everything. They’re a great group of kids.”
Members and their families were treated to an ice cream social after the induction, where they all received their new NJHS shirts.
