Resolution Copper awards 2016 Scholarship and Leadership Grants

SUPERIOR, AZ – June 13, 2016 – Resolution Copper announced today that twelve graduating seniors from high schools within the Copper Triangle are recipients of the Resolution Copper 2016 Scholarship Program.

   Academic scholarships, valued at $3,000 each, were awarded to students from high schools in Kearny, Hayden, Miami, Globe, and Superior. Two Steven L. Besich Leadership Grants were also awarded. These one‐time grants help defray educational costs and are awarded annually to students at Superior High School and Globe High School.  Leadership grants were established in honor of the late Steven L. Besich, Gila County Manager, in recognition of outstanding leadership achievements.

   “We are honored to provide support to so many outstanding students and to help them as they take the next important step towards furthering their education,” said Melissa Rabago, community advisor, Resolution Copper.  Education programs are one of the cornerstones of our community engagement and we are very proud of these graduating seniors.”

   Resolution Copper scholarships are awarded to students attending an Arizona university, community college, business or trade school.  Following a rigorous selection process, scholarships are granted on an objective basis including the students’ overall academic record and achievements, involvement in diverse curricular, extra-curricular and community activities and school recommendation. 

  Scholarship award winners were each presented with a personalized plaque at their schools’ year‐end award ceremonies.  Resolution Copper has awarded over 130 scholarships totaling more than $500,000 since 2002.

  Students receiving Resolution Copper 2016 scholarships are:

• Angelica Cabrera, Hayden High School

• Ivie Lopez, Superior High School

• Ciarra Villaverde, Superior High School

• Elias Olmos, Superior High School

• Matthew Haro, Globe High School

• Anjali Das, Globe High School

• Cloey Gillum, Globe High School

• Nepeese Avechuco, Ray High School

• Gabrielle Juvera, Ray High School

• Garrett Mancha, Miami High School

  Students receiving the Resolution Copper 2016 Leadership Grant are:

• Jose Lira, Jr., Superior High School

• Cloey Gillum, Globe High School

About Resolution Copper

Resolution Copper is a limited liability company working to develop the third largest undeveloped copper resource in the world near Superior, AZ. The project will mine ore using underground block-caving methods at depths of nearly 7,000 feet below surface. When in full production, the mine will employ 1,400 workers directly and generate an additional 2,300 indirect and induced jobs. The mine will be North America’s largest copper producer when in full production, capable of producing more than 25 percent of the nation’s demand based on today’s usage.
