The Ray football team is now riding a three-game winning streak after starting the season with consecutive losses. The Bearcats’ last two victories, however, have come as a result of forfeits. The first was last week versus Baboquivari and most recently against Telesis Prep, which cancelled last Thursday’s game as a result of having too many injured players.
Ray head coach Frank Lechuga told the Copper Basin News his team was getting ready to leave for the long trip on Thursday morning when the school received the call to cancel Thursday’s game.
The good news is the Bearcats are rested and picking up wins. The not-so-good news is the Cats will earn at least another win by forfeit as their Oct. 7 opponent – North Phoenix Prep – announced before the season that it cancelled its football program due to insufficient participation.
The Cats will finally (and hopefully) play a home game this Friday, when they host Duncan.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
