In Psalm 17:3, David makes the statement – “I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.” In verse 1, he says, “my prayer does not come from deceitful lips.”
Paul, in his letters to the churches, list various sins found among the believers. Those that come from the lips are: hatred, brawling, slander, filthy language, godless chatter, quarrels and arguments. These things are inappropriate for God’s holy children.
Most of these are simply a result of the choices we make. Our choices can be good, bad or indifferent. They are a product of our thoughts, attitudes, experiences and emotions. The events that happen around us are capable of influencing our judgement, which changes how we will respond.
Many of us make a New Year’s Resolution. You can make one anytime, without having to wait for the new year. Decide now to not sin with your words. Don’t forget about it, plan to keep your promise and stay focused on a good attitude and speech. You will be glad of the choice you have made.
