The Superior baseball team lost back-to-back games last week for the first time this season. The ninth-ranked Panthers were defeated at home 6 – 3 by No. 11 Alchesay last Tuesday before a 6 – 0 loss at No. 2 Pima last Thursday.
Perhaps most concerning is the loss to Pima was the second time in the Panthers’ last five games that they have been shutout. They lost to Miami at home on Apr. 7, 11 – 0.
At a time when playoff teams should be peaking, the Panthers appear to be in a mini-slump offensively. But their offense is too good to be down for long and has the ability to turn things around quickly, which it can in the upcoming final week of the regular season.
Eli Olmos tripled and had one of the Panthers’ three hits in the loss to the Falcons last Tuesday. Edgar Galindo, Steven Ybarra, and Nicolaus Cruz each drove in a run. Ybarra, a freshman, and Cruz accounted for the Panthers’ other two hits in the game.
