Make no mistake, the Ray football team has had to face one of, if not the most, challenging schedules of any team in the state, taking on three-straight top-ten teams and each of them a state title contender.
Last Friday night’s game versus fourth-ranked St. David ended much the same as the previous two games – a lopsided loss. The Tigers defeated Ray, 48 – 8.
The eight points scored against the Tigers are the Cats only points in their last 10 quarters.
The defense has had its own struggles as well, allowing more than 53 points per game.
Those numbers show just how difficult it’s been for the Cats who are breaking in a number of new starters after the graduation of several key contributors from a year ago.
This week the Cats play a rivalry game against a much improved Hayden team, which is 1 – 1 on the season. The Lobos, however, suffered their own lopsided loss last week against Valley Union, 56 – 6.
Friday’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
