The eighth-ranked Miami baseball team pulled a mild upset against sixth-ranked Ray, defeating the visiting Cats last Tuesday, 14 – 4. The loss ended the Ray’s modest four-game winning streak.

The Cats didn’t let the loss carryover to their next game as evidenced by their 18 – 6 against San Carlos last Friday.

A 10-run fourth inning by the Cats blew the game open.

Ray hit six doubles in the game, including one by Jaden Pace, who had three hits in the game. The freshman also drove in a run. Older brother Jordan Pace had two hits in the game, both of them doubles. Noah Warren and Fabian Valenzuela had two hits in the game, including a double each. Warren also drove in two runs. Anthony Acuna hit the Cats’ other double and drove in two runs.

Brett Fackiner was the winning pitcher after a tossing a complete game. The junior allowed six runs – three earned – on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Upcoming schedule:  Apr. 19 vs. Ft. Thomas, Apr. 22 at Alchesay (2 p.m.), Apr. 26 vs. Pima, and Apr. 27 at Superior. All games are scheduled for 4 p.m. unless otherwise indicated.
