Miners’ ladies win Rotary Invitational; men finish runner-up

The San Manuel Track & Field team hosted nine teams last Friday at their annual Rotary Track & Field Invitational. The girls’ team finished first while the boys took home second in the second-to-last major event before the state meet.

  First-place finishers for the Miners girls’ team included: Eneida Quintero (1600m), Andrea Castaneda (3200m), Jade Willard (Triple Jump), Alicia Guerrero (Pole Vault), and Cita Sweeney (Shot Put, Discus, and Modified Javelin).

  Other top finishers on the girls’ side:  Yesenia Arcienega (3rd – 400m), Alicia Guerrero, Eneida Quintero, Andrea Castaneda, and Leti Vargas (2nd – 4x100m), Yesenia Arcienega, Ashidet Ochoa, Eneida Qunitero, and Leti Vargas (2nd – 4x400m), Angelica Garcia (Triple Jump), Stephanie Morris (2nd – Discus), and Mariela Canisales (2nd – Modified Javelin).

  First-place finishers for the Miners boys’ team included:  Patrick Lopez (3200m), Adrian Sierra, Hector Sierra, Patrick Lopez, and Jose Damian (4x100m), and Carlos Salas (Pole Vault).

  Other top finishers for the boys:  Carlos Salas (110HH & 300IH), Colbey Stratton (2nd – Pole Vault), and Taylor Woods (2nd – Modified Javelin).

  The Miners will travel to Marana this week to participate in the last state qualifying meet, aka Marana Last Chance.
