The Miner women’s swim team used the home pool advantage late last month as they pulled off a win for San Manuel.
On Tuesday, Sept. 29, the Miner Girls Swim Team hosted the team from Immaculate Heart High School. The Miners won the meet with a final score of San Manuel 95 and Immaculate Heart 26.
The Miner women won all 11 events at the meet. The Medley Relay team of Darien Apuron, Elyssia Aguilar, Gianna Sweeney, and Raya Woods started things off with a win. The wins kept coming as Rebekah Head won the 200 Freestyle, Darien Apuron won the 200 Individual Medley, and Gianna Sweeney won the 50 Freestyle. After the break, Mariela Canisales won the 100 Butterfly, Rebekah Head won the 100 Freestyle and Darien Apuron won the 400 Freestyle. The 200 Freestyle Relay team of Elyssia Aguilar, Stephanie Morris, Rebekah Head and Mariela Canisales won by a large margin after being close for the first two legs. The final two individual events the 100 Backstroke and 100 Breaststroke, were won by Stephanie Morris and Gianna Sweeney respectively. The meet ended with the Miners winning the final relay, 400 Free Relay, uncontested (Apuron, Head, Woods, and Sweeney).
Seniors Mariela Canisales, Stephanie Morris and Rebekah Head all won individual events at the final home meet for the Miners.
“Seniors always find a way to come through when the opportunity presents itself, and this group of Senior Girls did exactly that at this meet,” said head coach Alex Gort.
On Thursday, Oct. 8 the Miners will travel to the Udall Pool in Tucson to face Sahuaro and Tucson High Schools at 4 p.m.
