The First and Second Grade class had a Pet Show at Mammoth Elementary STEM School on Wednesday, May 6th 2015. Our class wanted to have a Pet Show because everybody wanted to share their pets with each other. We asked for donations of $0.50 or a can of food to give to the Mammoth Food Bank. It was both fun and a community service.

We worked on getting the Pet Show ready for about two weeks. First we made posters that told about the Pet Show. These posters were advertising for our Pet Show. We put the posters outside around the school so that people would want to come.

Next, we made posters to explain about our pets that we were bringing. They told the pets name, what they like to do, who they belong to, and what kind of animal they are. On the morning of the Pet Show, these posters were hung at the pets’ spot.

Before the Pet Show started, we took chairs outside so parents could sit down. We set up a desk outside to keep track of who brought a donation of $0.50 or a can of food for the Mammoth Food Bank. When the parents got to the school we had to put the pets down. Dogs and a rooster were outside. Inside, we separated the hamster and the rat from the tortoise and salamander.

After everything was set up, the students from Headstart to sixth grade came. Teachers, parents, and school staff also came to see the pets. We showed them the dogs, puppies, and rooster first. Then we showed them the hamsters, salamander, desert tortoise and the rat.

Everyone that came was happy. They liked to see the pets. The Mammoth STEM preschoolers favorite animals were the puppies. “I think it went great because everyone got to see the pets and some of them were laughing,” said second grader Gyannah. Not only was it exciting, but we raised 126 cans of food and $27.00 for the Mammoth Food Bank.

The first and second graders at Mammoth Elementary STEM school would like to thank Nina Crowder, the teachers and staff, and the students for coming to their Pet Show. They really appreciate that their parents brought their pets and stayed to watch the Pet Show as well.
