Herrera runs for reelection to Kearny Council

I am David Herrera, a current council member in Kearny. A few years ago, I was selected to serve out the unexpired term of another council person.

It has been a great experience and I look forward to your support in order to remain on the council.

The council has experienced many challenges in the last few years as to the clean water issues and now with the ever-increasing need to support the aging infrastructure. We have many goals to keep Kearny viable and growing.

Many challenges have been identified and there are many good people working collaboratively to make Kearny an ideal place to live.

As an owner of property in the three towns of Kearny, Hayden and Superior, I have a perspective on the many issues that impact small towns.

All towns would like a strong plan for Economic Development and growth.

It is clear to me that towns like Jerome and Superior did poorly when the one employer left and the towns struggled to survive. However, those towns survived by bringing in tourism until people who visited realized these towns had a value that was worth saving.

Kearny has value worth saving, too. We must market our town by focusing on our strong points. Our town has beauty and resources. The most important resource is the fact that our residents love Kearny and want to live here. We must learn to survive. Bring back people and bring back more businesses. This, I feel, is the key to our success.

Some people may know me, and, some may not. Therefore, I will summarize some things about myself for those who do not know me.

I was born and raised in Superior, Arizona along with my eight siblings; graduating from Superior High in 1970.

I started dating Kearny resident, Gloria Maes, as we attended Arizona State University. We graduated together in 1974 and thereafter married.

We left in 1975, when I decided to attend law school in Chicago,Illinois, I attended De Paul College of Law for three years and did not complete the degree. I was working during that time for the University of Illinois Chicago Circle Campus and worked retail as well.

Retail took me to San Antonio, Texas, where my father was working as a Federal Mine Inspector.

I worked in the retail business for seven years in San Antonio, Texas and learned many good lessons on how to work for people and how to treat people.

As Gloria got more sick we decided to move back to Kearny, where she had extensive family. We settled into the quiet life in Kearny in 1986. We raised our two beautiful daughters, Marisa and Avila in Kearny. Both graduated from Ray High. Gloria worked in the Kearny, Hayden and Superior area for many years, and is still remembered as a great nurse. Gloria had compassion and great nursing skills.

Unfortunately, Gloria passed away in 2010, leaving two successful daughters and four beautiful grandsons. In 2011, I retired from Child Protective Services after a career which spanned 20 years. I currently work as a substitute teacher in both Kearny and Superior Schools.

I enjoy all three towns and see many things in each town that we can be proud of and support.
I look forward to serving the people of Kearny and share in the belief that Kearny is a beautiful place to live.

I ask for your support and vote in the primary. Thank you.

/s/ David Herrera
