The pandemic has been a huge reminder to everyone, how important local and accessible health care really is. Traveling out of town for routine health care is not always easy and in many cases it is often cost prohibitive for many residents.
The Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center has announced that it will be building a new medical facility to serve the residents of the Copper Basin. When the Kearny Hospital closed many years ago, the Copper Area Health Volunteers raised funds to keep the old hospital building in shape to have a health care providers visit the community.
A few years ago, CVRMC joined forces with the Volunteers and purchased the property. It was determined that rather than continuing to repair the old hospital, it would be more sustainable to build a modern health care clinic. As the old hospital is demolished, the new facility will be built in its place. The new facility will be modern and will offer the services that the current clinic offers. While the new clinic is under construction, patients at the clinic will access services at a temporary building location.
Construction is slated to take about a year.
