The Superior High School Family Career and Consumer Leaders of America planned and organized the annual Cancer Fight by Candlelight walk this past weekend. Dozens of people attended the event and donated to the cause to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

This year was especially unique. The walk was organized in the honor of Lou Torres who is currently battling squeamish cell carcinoma cancer. Lou’s daughter, Keanna Torres, is a member of the FCCLA at SHS. Lou was diagnosed and has been battling this cancer since 2012. Unfortunately Lou was unable to attend the event due to complications with his illness that prevented him from attending. His daughter Zeena spoke on his behalf. She spoke about her fathers relentless fight and how even though he has been so ill he continued to work and participate in family life.

The Superior Red Bear Outfitters assisted with the event by cooking the hamburgers and hot dogs that were sold to raise money. At press time FCCLA did not have a total on the funds raised for the American Cancer Society.
