Superior Optimist Club

In August of 2004, 27 community leaders gathered to create the Superior Optimist Club.  These community leaders had become actively involved in trying to start positive activities in Superior, after hearing about Optimist International the group inquired about starting a chapter of the international organization.

At first the group started out hosting movie nights and helping with local parades and recreation activities.  As their membership evolved they eventually became the primary organizer of the annual Miracle on Main Street parade for Christmas and continued the Honor Roll Banquet tradition that began with Beta Sigma Phi many years before.  The banquet celebrates the academic achievements of the students with a banquet and awards ceremony.  As the years progressed the club continued to grow the honor roll banquet and now they award laptop computers to graduating Seniors who have earned the Honor Roll the first three quarters of each school year, from their 8th grade through Senior years.  To date the club has awarded over 50 laptop computers to deserving students.

The Optimist Club also offers a scholarship in memory of their members who have passed away.  They are also a sponsor of the Second Friday Special Events and Music in the Park each month.  In addition to these community efforts the club also support the Superior Little League, Superior Food Bank and other youth and community activities as their budget allows.

Magma Royale, hosted the first Saturday in August is the main fundraising event for the Superior Optimist Club.  They also host various burger fry’s and other fundraisers throughout the year. The club always welcomes new members and currently there are many membership opportunities for new member; young professionals, education professionals and members of public safety organizations can receive reduced membership rates.

President of the Superior Optimist club is Jessica Castillo.  The Club meets the First and Third Tuesday’s of every month at Edwardo’s Pizza at 6:30pm.  Membership is $100 per year.

The mission of Optimist International is to Bring out the best in youth and promote optimism as a way of life.  The Optimist’s advice to business and success, simply follow the Optimist Creed!

The Optimist Creed

Promise Yourself

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

Corrections

In our July 19 In Your Biz article about the Pickle Barrel Trading Post, we inadvertently switched the names of the couples.  The original owners were Jim and Kelly Moss.  Kevin and Sandra joined Jim and Kelly in owning and operating the business.  Kevin and Sandra are pictured in the photo.  My apologies for the confusion… I was too distracted by all the great merchandise. – Mila

In last week’s In Your Biz article we listed the business name as Superior Environmental Services when it should of read Superior Environmental Solutions.  Our apologies to Mario and his team, they do work hard to find solutions for their customers.
