Players from the Hayden-Winkelman Little League recently learned what is was like to play like a big leaguer! 42 players ranging in age from 8-14 were on hand for the two-and-a-half-hour clinic followed by lunch, photos and an autograph session with former MLB players. Former Major League Baseball players Ron Davis, Lou Klimchock, Dave Hilton and Ken Phelps were on-hand as the instructors for the clinic
Hayden Mayor Smith, Winkelman Mayor Bracamonte and Pinal County Supervisor Pete Rios were in attendance to cheer on participants.
“It’s always exciting to see the level of talent in cities and towns outside of Metro Phoenix,” said Ken Phelps “There are some great young players in Hayden and Winkelman that have a chance to excel in baseball and softball.”
The APS All-Star clinic is a free program developed by APS Community Development consultant and former MLB player Ken Phelps to offer instruction to attendees on the fundamentals of softball and baseball. With the help of other retired MLB players, Phelps conducts instruction on batting, throwing, running, infield/outfield drills. The clinic began as a program focused on youth organizations.
