On October 1, the San Manuel football team held its annual homecoming game. The 5-0 Miners were set to play the 4-1 St. David Tigers.

The first quarter started with a battle to score some points: the Miners posting 8 points, while the Tigers posted 14. By halftime, St. David held a 20-point lead over San Manuel. The Miners fought hard, and were able to put another 6 points on the scoreboard. The game ended with a 14-48 final score, leaving the Miners with their first loss of the season, marking their record 5-1 now.

“We didn’t have a good game we had a lot of mistakes. We played a team that was senior strong and we are sophomore strong so we had to be on our A game,” commented head coach Ernie Ivy, “We have some work to do to push forward.”

The Miners will host a game against Cibecue on Friday, Oct. 8, with a kick-off time of 7 p.m. at Littau Field.
