Give 2A San Manuel credit for scheduling tough opponents, but the Miners were no match for 3A title contender Yuma Catholic in the Miners’ home opener last Friday night. The Shamrocks didn’t need any luck in their 62 – 7 victory.
The teams scored all 62 points in the first half, which included Yuma Catholic scoring the first 19 unanswered points in the first quarter before San Manuel senior running back Benny Laguna scored on a two-yard touchdown run.
Leading 19 – 7 at the start of the second quarter, Yuma Catholic scored 43 more unanswered points before points before halftime to close out the game’s scoring.
