I have so many wonderful memories of the time I had lived in the town of Hayden, Arizona where I had been born and raised, and of nearby Winkelman and their surrounding areas. Many of those memories were included in my earlier Georgie Digs articles that were started in May of 2010 and had been published in the Copper Basin News.
A very close school friend of mine was Ruby Jean Prince, now known as Ruby Jean Giorsetti who with her sons Jeff and William run their Giorsetti Superior Grocery Store that has been a long-time business in Winkelman. I really enjoyed being with Ruby when we attended several reunions of those who had been students at Hayden High School, and the last one had been held on Oct. 14, 2017 at the Hayden Golf Course. That last one was for those who had been students in the 1940’s/ 1960’s, and I am sure that Ruby and I were among the oldest. It was fun to visit with those of different ages, and talk about what we remembered.
Speaking of remembering, I sometimes can’t remember the names of those I meet and talk to when I am at the post office or Norm’s Hometown Grocery in Kearny, Arizona where I live. We end up laughing after I ask their names , and they tell me they have the same problem. That is just one of the pleasures of living in a small town instead of a big city.
