National Library Week this year was held April 10-14. In celebration, Kearny Public Library held a Bookmark Contest featuring the theme ‘Libraries Transform’.
Once all the entries had been received, a panel of judges chose the five best bookmarks from each grade level. The finalists were then posted in the library and patrons were asked to cast ballots for their favorite one from each grade. Votes were added up, but, in some cases there were ties for third place, so both parties were winners.
The winners of the 2017 Kearny Public Library Bookmark Contest were, for 1st grade: Liliannna Solis (1st), Morgan Gennicks (2nd) and Madison Acevedo (3rd); for 2nd grade, Kaylee Servant (1st), Seth Wade (2nd), Callee McCroskey (3rd) and Aleyna Ochoa (3rd); for 3rd grade, Julissa Garcia (1st), Veronica Baez (2nd) and Olivia Boatman (3rd), and for 4th grade, Estrella Brumley (1st), Eddie Gutierrez (2nd), Brooklyn Lechuga (3rd) and Neveah Curiel (3rd).
On Thursday, April 13, 6 p.m., the library held its annual Open House Winners of the Bookmark Contest were were given certificates and prize bags. Videos, which had been raffled off among the patrons who had filled out tickets for each day they used the library during National Library Week, were given out.
