Kearny residents recently started requesting speed bumps placed on their street to prevent speeding through residential neighborhoods. For several meetings the Kearny Council and Staff had been discussing the current speed bump installation policy and researching any potential changes to the policy.
After careful review of the options for speed bump installation policies, the council voted to allow residents to follow a procedure which will require a petition to be signed by the residents on the street where a speed bump is being requested. If there are sufficient signatures the council may allow for the installation. However signage will need to be installed on both sides of the speed bump and the residents of the area will need to pay for a portion of the installation of the requested speed bump.
The council also determined that they would approve the installation of a portable speed bump mechanism that would allow for the speed bump to be moved in the event that there is drainage or other traffic problems with the installation of the speed bump.
