Senior Nicolaus Cruz went 3-for-4 and nearly hit for the cycle in Superior’s 8 – 2 season-opening win at Globe last Friday.
Cruz, who also doubled and tripled in the game, hit a solo homerun in his first at-bat of the season, accounting for one of his two RBI against the Tigers. Junior Marcos Bueno also homered for one of his two hits and two RBI in the game. The duo each also had a stolen base apiece.
Sophomore starting pitcher Kale Major went five innings to pick up his first win of the season. He allowed two earned runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and three walks. Steven Ybarra pitched an inning in relief without surrendering a run or a hit. He fanned one Tigers’ hitter.
