Pamela Peck opens new hair salon

Pamela Peck is a woman who believes in setting goals and then working hard to make them come true.

Untangled Hair by Pam is a new hair salon that has opened in town, but the owner is very familiar to the townspeople of Superior. Pamela Peck has been a realtor in Superior for the last 17 years. Pam is still going to be doing realtor work, but she decided it was time to go back to one of her first loves—doing hair.

Pam moved to Superior in 1975 and started her junior year of high school in Superior. Once she graduated, she married her high school boyfriend. After six years of marriage, Pam found herself a single mom raising two kids. She realized she needed to find a way to support herself and her children. At first, she tried going to real estate school, but she had two young kids, and the commute to Phoenix made going to school tough, so Pam decided to make the switch to beauty school.

Beauty school seemed like a great fit. Pam knew from the age of nine that she wanted to one day be a hairdresser. When she was a kid, Pam’s Italian granny would come to visit, and young Pam loved doing her grandmother’s hair. It was after she got out of beauty school that Pam decided it was time to set some goals for herself. Her first goal—to own her own salon in five years. It only took her three. Her first salon was on the bottom of Main Street. It was back during a time when the town had a big enough population to support three hair salons.

After owning the salon for a year, Pam says, “I had the opportunity to buy the building at 201 main street.” The salon was very successful, and Pam even made good on another goal—to do commercial hair. Over the years as a hairdresser, she worked with some photographers and even got a chance to do hair for the movie industry. It was during the filming of the 1997 movie U-Turn that Pam met her current husband. It was love at first sight for both of them. Pam started doing hair and makeup on some film sets, and she even got a chance to go to LA and work on a movie set.

It was only after having a car accident that compromised the use of her arms that Pam had to rethink what she was going to do. She decided it was time to try real estate school again. That was 17 years ago, and she has been working as a realtor ever since. But now Pam has decided on another goal—to open another hair salon. The timing makes sense since her children are full grown, and her husband’s work in the film industry means he travels quite a bit.

Her first salon was called Pamela’s Beauty Salon. Pam says, “I didn’t want to go back to the old name. This was a whole new entity, and I wanted something fresh.” Her new salon is called Untangled Hair by Pam. And Pam’s newest goal? To give back to the community. Pam says, “I had my first, second Friday in January, and I had set a goal that whatever money I made I was going to give back to the school.” It was a successful night, and Pam will be giving the school Robotics’ club a $200 check.

The new shop doesn’t have set hours. Pam is at her office on Main Street all day, all week, and she says, “real estate doesn’t take up all of my time.” There may be a few times she is off showing a property to a client and she won’t be available to do haircuts.  Regular haircuts are $17, and color is $35. Pam does makeup as well as hair. One of the founding members of Second Fridays, Pam is now running a special during the events. You can get a haircut during Second Fridays for just $10.  Pam’s new shop can be found at 18 N. Magma Ave.
