Hayden’s Homecoming Royalty this year are: Caroline Monroy and Jorge Rodriguez, Freshmen attendants; Celeste Traut and Robbie Casillas, Sophomore attendants; and Marianna Garcia and Mario Mariscal, Junior attendants. Homecoming Queen and King are Jessica Lopez and Santiago Pina.
The Hayden football team improved to 2 – 2 following a 28 – 24 victory at Duncan last Friday night. After consecutive losses to start the season, the Lobos have now won two-straight and will look to make it three in-a-row this Friday at home versus Valley Lutheran.
Lobos’ head coach John Estrada was pleased with his team’s effort, but believes there is still room for improvement.
“They didn’t give up,” Estrada told the Copper Basin News in an email. “We made mistakes that hurt us and killed our opportunities to score. We need to get better and keep improving.”
Senior running back Brandon Cruz ran for two touchdowns and junior quarterback Mario Mariscal threw a touchdown pass to Michael Guerrero.
The Lobos scored on defense as well on a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown by senior defensive back Ryan Donovan.
With five games remaining, Estrada was asked what his team needs to do in the second half of the season to secure a playoff berth.
“Keep improving,” he responded. “One game at a time.”
Friday’s kickoff for Homecoming is scheduled for 7 p.m.
