A four-run sixth inning by visiting Thatcher was the difference in the No. 21 Eagles’ 9 – 8 upset victory over second-ranked San Manuel last Wednesday, but the Lady Miners bounced back with a lopsided 13 – 3 win at Desert Christian last Friday.
Lyana Waddell was the star at the plate and on the mound in the Lady Miners’ 15th win of the season. The Western New Mexico commit went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and drove in four runs in addition to pitching a complete game for her 10th victory of the year. She allowed three runs on six hits, did not walk a batter, and fanned 11 Desert Christian hitters.
Dionne Ruiz, a junior, had three hits, including two doubles and a triple, and three RBI in the win. Daniela Guerrero had two hits and two RBI. Angela Navarro also had two of the Lady Miners’ 11 hits in the game.
Upcoming schedule: Apr. 13 vs. Pueblo and Apr. 20 vs. Amphitheater. Both games are scheduled for 4 p.m.
