Queen Creek High School’s DECA chapter competed in the 2016 Arizona DECA State Conference, and the club’s members performed remarkably well, bringing back many awards and medals.

At the conference held in Downtown Phoenix, 24 elite DECA members competed in hopes of qualifying for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC). Together, they earned a total of 31 individual awards and 3 chapter awards. Individual awards presented were 12 role play medals, 5 exam medals, 8 finalist medals, and 6 state champion awards. International competitors are Britton Broschart, Bradey Stuart, Devin Tinder, Stephanie Gerhart, Kim Bitler, and Megan Loponen, with Kim and Megan placing 1st in their respective categories. Additionally, London Hanson will be attending as part of the Western Region Vice President Campaign Platform and Kyle Reading as a THRIVE Academy attendee.

At the state conference, members attended workshops and competed in roleplays, which are fictitious business problems that participants must solve. DECA members also had the chance to network with other DECA chapters from around the state and participate in various events the conference had to offer. To qualify for the international conference during the state competition, members had to have scored high enough in their individual categories to place as one of the top six competitor’s in their event. During ICDC, the students will either compete with members from across the United States and around the globe, attend a two day academy that allows members to gain valuable leadership and business skills, or help run the campaign platform for one of the DECA Executive Officer candidates.

Queen Creek’s DECA chapter is part of an international organization that helps prepare young people for careers in marketing, finance, business management, and hospitality. Qualified members will be attending the International Career Development Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee April 22-26.
