Mountain Vista Jr. High wrestler Gilbert Rodriguez was named Outstanding Wrestler after taking first place in the 83-lb division at the Central Junior High League wrestling championships held in San Manuel late last month.
Two other MVJH wrestlers also placed in the top three last weekend: Tony Smith (78lbs) placed second and Julian Gonzalez (142lbs) placed third. The trio accounted for MVJH’s 32 points, which placed sixth in the overall team standings.
San Manuel had five wrestlers place in the top four, including Mia Borg (83lbs) fourth, Mireya Curry (93lbs) third, TJ Madrid (111lbs) second, Adrian Romero (133lbs) second, and Michael Martinez (142lbs) second.
Peter Kame (167lbs) and Raymond Ahumada (154lbs) of Hayden each won championships in their respective weight class. Julian Gonzalez (104lbs) placed fourth.
Eloy won the CJHL team championship with 244.5 points and was followed by High Desert (162), Miami (69), Hayden (41), San Manuel (39), and Mountain Vista (32).
