On Sunday, Jan. 19, 2016, Poet William Pitt Root presented a poetry reading at the Rancho Linda Vista Gallery in Oracle.
Root is also an avid photographer and his photography show also opened in the gallery. More than 30 people attended the poetry reading. The William Pitt Root photography show titled, Faces & Places & Oases, includes images from the USA (including Rancho Linda Vista and Tucson), Costa Rica, Mexico, Israel, Prague, India and Capetown, which were on display in the gallery. Several acrylic art works by the late Judi Uschuk-Stahl from her incomplete Dancers Sequence are also on display. The show will be at the gallery through January.
William was the Tucson Poet Laureate from 1997 to 2002. He taught at Hunter College. His poetry has won numerous honors and awards. His books of poetry include The Storm and Other Poems, A Journey South, Invisible Guests, Courage, Strange Angels: New Poems and Whiteboots New and Selected Poems of the West. The poem, “Whiteboots: Ghost of the San Manuel Mine,” is about the ghost said to haunt the San Manuel Mine. William worked in the Magma mine for a short while back in 1972.
