The merchants in downtown Superior have set out to grow a monthly event called Second Friday. The very first one was held Friday, Dec. 12, and featured live music in the Besich Park hosted by the Superior Optimist Club and an Ugly Christmas Sweater contest. The downtown had many cars parked and many patrons strolled Main Street looking for treasures.
Local musicians John Moreno, Tommy Macias, Veto Cervantes and Steve Holmquest played an assortment of live music pieces. Those wishing to join the community jam session are encouraged to attend the event.
Winning the coveted first place in the Ugly Christmas Sweater contest was Ashley Valenzuela with her Christmas Tree Sweater which was her original design. JoAnn Besich won the second prize with a store bought sweater that the judges deemed “truly ugly.” Participants who visited every shop received a chance to win a gift basket valued at $350. The winner of the gift basket was Natalie Perez.
The next Second Friday is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 8, 2016. Stores will be open until 8 p.m. A theme has not been determined yet.
