Central Arizona College holds awards ceremony

Central Arizona College (CAC) Aravaipa Campus holds student awards ceremony. CAC Representative, Benny DeSantiago said, “The awards are for leadership, compassion, appreciation for social, cultural, diversity and for the use of common wisdom for good.”

Professor Kinsey McKinney awarded Rhonda Goff for the communication award. McKinney said, “It was a no brainer recommending Rhonda because she is an incredible writer.”

The outstanding math award was presented to David Rowlands. Rowlands presented greatness in upper level math he has shown insight, determination and great skill to advance to a higher level in math.

Professor Maren Wilson presented the Social Behavior Sciences Award to Leticia Reidhead. Wilson said, “She was the top student in the fall class and she did outstanding work.” Professor Wilson also presented an Archaeology Award to a high school student who is taking her online class, Peter West was the recipient for this award.

Louise King presented the Biological Sciences Award to Danielle Patters. King said, “It is nice when a student answers a question with more than just a sentence, but a paragraph.” Edward Aguirre was the recipient for the second award. King said, “Someone who can take three science classes in one semester with me deserves an award.”

The Technology Award, which recognizes a student for their excellence, goes to Luke Cunningham.

Maria Munoz said, “The J. Luz Hernandez Award is to recognize an individual who promotes higher education within our college and local communities. This year the CAC Aravaipa campus would like to recognize Michael Carnes for this award. Carnes is highly active in our communities and serves as a volunteer for several committees. He has made several contributions to our college. Our students and staff appreciate the support that Carnes has provided to our campus and students.”

Professor Maren Wilson presented Michelle Kauffeld with the Outstanding Part Time Student Award.

The Academic Plus Award is to recognize students for their dedication to their education, studies and contribution to the campus. Ronald Boyer, Devin DeGood, Nicholas Diaz, Gabriel Encinas, Danny Fessenden, David Rowlands, Recita Garcia, Megan Garcia, Annie Hinojos, Brianna Marquez and Tony Molina were recognized.

The Alpha Theta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa won Arizona Regional Awards for honors and action college project for the calendar year 2014 which was received this spring. Members and officers throughout the district worked and made this happen. The Aravaipa campus members in 2014 were Annie Hinojos, Edward Aguirre, Josette Kimmel, Daniel Madrid, David Rowlands, Shantelle Archunde, Cheyenne Dickey and alumni Lynda Dickey. This spring Josette Kimmel is being recognized for her stead fast participation in meetings and campus events.

The All Arizona/USA Academic Team award was presented to David Rowlands. Wilson said, “Mr. Rowlands you epitomize the hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa scholarships, leadership, service and fellowship you are a true student leader.”

Student Leadership Awards went to: Edward Aguirre, Josette Kimmel, Daniel Madrid, Lawrence Polanco and Maritsa Estrada.

Rosemary Ramirez presented the award for Student Public Policy Forum (SPPF) to Edward Aguirre.

Maria Munoz presented the Outstanding First Year Student Award to Aliana Rodriguez. The Most Engaged Student Award went to Leticia Reidhead.

The Outstanding Veterans Award went to Robert Ludkey.

The Faculty of the Year Award, which gives students the opportunity to vote for a professor who has influenced them or whom they have found to be exemplary, went to Louise King.

The Who’s Who Awards went to: Edward Aguirre, Jamie Begay, Ronald Lawyer, Christina Clifford, Annie Hinojos, Josette Kimmel, Aliana Rodriquez, Daniel Patton, Leticia Reidhead and David Rowlands.

Congratulations to all the award recipients and may they continue to be successful in all their future endeavors!
