March 14 and 15 are the dates for Superior’s 27th annual Apache Leap Mining Festival. As the gateway to the Copper Corridor we are celebrating all of the mining communities in our area. Several towns will have booths to promote the special things in their communities. Talk to mining companies and learn about copper mining in the area…both underground and open pit types. Resolution Copper will explain the mining plan for one of the largest deposits of copper in North America.

The event kicks off on Saturday with a parade, Chihuahua races, a grueling mining competition with a $2,000 purse, and the renowned Navajo Dance Group, Dineh Tah’, from New Mexico. This award winning group has performed throughout the country and shares their rich cultural traditions through dance and song. More entertainment includes shootouts with the OK Chorale, Wyatt Earp presenting “Wyatt Earp, a Life on the Frontier”, magic acts, animal acts and more. Try your luck with panning for gold while the youngsters pan for copper. Sip a beer in the beer garden and enjoy the vivacious Samba Dancers, followed by our headliner band, led by Bobby Cook, a Superiorite who regularly entertains in Las Vegas. Kick up your heels and enjoy the Saturday night street dance. The young, and young at heart, will enjoy the carnival with rides for all ages. Food and vendors galore. Located just 30 minutes east of Apache Junction. Free except carnival and vendors. The address is 165 W. Main St., Superior, 85173. Times for the event are Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hosted by the Superior Chamber of Commerce with Premier Sponsor Resolution Copper Mining.
