Prior to leaving Washington DC for his two week holiday retreat in Hawaii, President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act which included the approval of the Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act.

The land exchange will not be complete until an Environmental Impact Statement is complete which was a provision added to the bill. The Oak Flats campground will remain open to the public until the area is no longer safe for public use.

Senators McCain and Flake along with Representatives Kirkpatrick and Gosar had originally planned a trip to Superior for a community meeting on the jobs bill. That event was postponed because the senate had not adjourned the session prior to the event. The event is expected to be rescheduled.
