Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, the Democratic candidate for Congressional District One, has secured her seat to return to DC.
Kirkpatrick has been elected to her third term. However, this is her first time to have two consecutive terms.
Kirkpatrick beat Republican Andy Tobin with 52.23% of the vote. Tobin received 47.34%.
During her service to CD1, Kirkpatrick has been instrumental in protecting jobs in the district and in the Copper Corridor. She introduced the Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act which is needed for the Resolution Copper project and has been working with the Environmental Protection Agency to finalize the repairs at the Hayden smelter. She has also worked on the VA reform bills to help ensure that Americas veterans are receiving the care they deserve.
Barbara McGuire was leading the race for Senator of Legislative District 8 with 50.70% of the votes. She was just ahead of Republican Irene Littleton who had 49.11% of the votes. At press time a winner was not declared in this race as final vote counts have not been submitted by Pinal or Gila counties.
Larry Bravo faced write in candidate David Orzell for the Superior/Kearny Justice of the Peace. Bravo the incumbent won his seat with 69.27% of the votes. The write in candidate votes received were 30.73%. While it is assumed that all the write in votes went to Orzell, Pinal County does not provide a breakdown of other names that could have been submitted as a write in vote. Nancy Discher beat Gary Graham for the Oracle Justice of the Peace and Arnold Estrada ran unopposed for San Manuel/Mammoth/Dudleyville Justice of the Peace.
Henry Velasquez ran unopposed for the position of San Manuel Constable as did Mike Sloan for the position of Oracle Constable. Three candidates vied for the position of Superior Constable: Chris Alvarado Sr., a Democrat, won this position with 59.90% of the votes. Trailing him in the race were John Reilly Breneman with 27.77% and Jack Orozco with 11.79%.
The race for the two positions on the Superior School Board has been tight since Tuesday night with the front runner changing on a daily basis. Five candidates were vying for the two positions which split the vote extensively in this race. At press time Pinal County election results showed that Catherine Sommer was the lead candidate with 381 votes (24.14%) with Ignacio Max Magallanez having 367 votes (23.26%) of the votes. Nathan Duarte was close behind in third place with 347 votes (21.99%), Yolanda Najera-Ewing, the incumbent in the race, received 251 votes (15.91%) and John Tameron was in last place with 230 votes (14.58%). This race has not been determined at this time.
Mila Besich is a resident of Superior with two children. She volunteers for many local organizations. She is an experienced fundraiser and event planner for Copper Corridor Economic Development Coalition. She covers some of the area town councils and schools.
